Why do Yoga?
Researchers have found yoga improves the quality of life and reduces pain for a variety of people with health challenges.
Conditions such as multiple sclerosis, carpel tunnel syndrome, asthma, physical pain and restrictions, high blood pressure, emotional stress, chronic fatigue syndrome, and a variety of others respond positively to yoga practice.
Some examples: - Duke University uses Hatha yoga for chronic disorders, specifically coronary disease and heart failure. (Yoga Journal, Jan/Feb 2001)
- After six months of practicing yoga, epileptic patience reported an 86% reduction in the # of seizures. (Indian Journal of Medical Research, March 2000)
- Subjects show a change in brain-wave patterns from aroused to deep relaxation. (Time Magazine)
- A Harvard Medical School study found that YOGA PROVES AS GOOD AS TRADITIONAL PSYCHOTHERAPY at helping patients in a methadone recovery program. IF YOU CAN PRODUCE THOSE EFFECTS IN ADDICTS, THINK OF THE BENEFIT TO CHILDREN AND THE REST OF US! (Harvard Med. School, Alternative Therapy Health Medicine, 1997)
